Priorities

Make Thurston County a Destination for Thriving Living

Our region has SO MUCH to offer. It’s not just a great place to visit - it’s a great place to live and it’s a great place to do business. Rose's main focus as your port commissioner will be to build on our strengths and make our area even more attractive for economic development projects. The four priorities are:

INCLUSION THROUGH ENGAGEMENT

Rose will prioritize rebuilding trust and leadership at the Port by actively engaging voices that have previously been excluded. She also suggests that the Commission should establish transparent decision-making processes to achieve these goals, while addressing other key priorities.

PROMOTING LIVING WAGE JOBS

Rose will help grow our region’s small farms, agri-tourism, and small businesses by making the Port a leader in economic and social development. She will prioritize creating an economy with well-paying jobs to provide sustainable incomes for families.

CREATING A DESTINATION WATERFRONT

As a longtime member of our community, Rose recognizes the importance of providing spaces and opportunities for recreation. She will help secure resources needed to turn the Port Peninsula waterfront into a premier destination by adding attractions, increasing accessibility, and maintaining a clean and safe environment.

STOPPING ALL FORMS OF HUMAN TRAFFICKING

Rose’s 14 years of policy research, advocacy, and co-founding Washington Trafficking Prevention informs the fact that human traffickers know where they can find a vulnerable gateway to exploit. Rose plans to work with the Port Commission to ensure training on human trafficking for Port staff to identify potential vulnerabilities in Port operations and collaborate with other jurisdictions to combat human trafficking. The scourge of human trafficking happens in every community, and Thurston County isn’t immune.

To achieve these goals, we need to rebuild trust and leadership by including different voices that have not been involved with the Port. I also propose that the Commission provide clear policy directives to guide the management team’s long-term processes and decision-making.
